Oceanside Yacht Club Thirsty Thursdays Series Results

Melancholy swept over the Outer Basin at Oceanside Harbor , as Oceanside Yacht Club’s Thirsty Thursday series offered it’s final puffs.

Yes, there were the Lasers, Sabots, even a Capri 14, but the Action was ALL LIDO. ALL THE TIME.

The early lead launched by Swift River (Larry Rowe, with crew Mike) was countered by Given Harrison and Lou Servatka in Buckaroo. Their run of trophy finishes faced a late challenge by Sue Miller and Marissa Brown In Lazlo, but the numbers had been etched…along with the “1st’ on Given’s overall Thirsty Thursday Series trophy.

Since Jay Davis took a vacation, racing the 70 foot Alchemy to Hawaii , Holly Davis and her brother, Eric, terrorized in Irish Car Bomb, claiming a victory in Race 7. Mike and Mallory Murphy (Murphy’s Law) meted out the justice to the fleet with a win in Race 6.

The intensity extended through the fleet. The 2 newest Lidos were locked in a match series. Slippery When Wet with Steve Rhodes and Joe Lopez, and Jack and Margie Bouckeno’s A Little Quickie traded introductory sailing lessons without a hint of a “tap out.” Both the boats and the crews were hardened in the saltwater tempering process.

Jeff and Amanda Satterwhite made an appearance in Hot Damn to round out the scoring equation.

Oceanside Harbor has a widespread reputation for a 18:00 vacuum in the blow department, but Race Committee Paul Gadbois and Frank Moulton kept feeding the quarters to the Aeolus Windmaker, and the venue was graced with usable pressure gradients throughout the series. The entire fleet was working the tricky tidal currents by the final races.

OYC wrapped up the event with an Ice Cream Social accompanying the award ceremony.

Lido fleet members kicked butt on other boats in the summer series as well. James Conner (Larry Rowe’s crew) won the Laser Class. Stevy Mast survived in the sabot class. Huey Mast dominated the sabots and on his boat, Toxic Haste, he and crew Larry Rowe, Steve Rhodes and Jack Buckeno took home the gold. Sue Miller also crewed on Wednesdays. And did we mention Jay Davis did TRANSPAC!
